On Thursday, July 19, 2012, the USCPA became aware of a fraudulent email phishing scam that was sent to numerous individuals, CPAs, non-CPAs and members of the general public. The email incorporated an USCPA banner and referenced the recipient’s possible involvement in an income tax fraud activity and possible termination of licenses, and instructed the recipient to click on a link to provide clarifying information. The fraudulent email is not from the USCPA.
If you receive the email, delete it immediately. We have notified law enforcement of the incident and continue to monitor the situation.
If you clicked on the link in the email, we suggest you run a full virus scan of your system. Even if you did not click on the link, it is always prudent to make sure your virus protection is up to date. We also encourage you to proactively take steps to protect yourself from email and online fraud.
